The Police Committee met in session on Wednesday evening, January 24, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. with Chairman Wiewel presiding and the following members present: Mayor Harold L. Ludwig, Lowe and Chief Baker. Wiewel called the meeting to order. Chief Baker stated the number of dispatchers needed for 24 hour coverage will be an additional 3 full time and 2 part-time. It was decided prior to (he interviews, to hire one full time and one part-time dispatcher at this time and once they were trained, began again with interviews. A special Council meeting will be held on January 30, 2001 to go over the Committee's recommendations and to discuss hiring an officer to fill the position of Balmer's. Copies of all eight applicant's, applications were given to the Committee prior to the interviews. Eight interviews were held. Those interviewed were Ryan Dorrell, George Calton, Stephanie McKim, Jessica Lewis, Cynthia dark. Donna Jones and Ashlee Bell. Discussion held with all applicants were their past work history's, being able to work different shifts and if they were wanting full time or part-time positions. Discussion was also held regarding future openings in the Police Dept., should one of them not be chosen for these two positions and their interest in keeping their names on file. Discussion was held regarding benefits for full time employees starting salary is $7.00, all newly hired employees are on probation for 90 days worked, after probation, health insurance is provided by the City for employees only, but the employee does have the options to pay for insurance for family. Employees will also after six months be enrolled into the City's retirement program of LAGERS at 4% each week, after probation employees will be entitled to 1/2 day vacation for each month until their year anniversary. Vacations are one week for the first year, from two to ten years they will receive two weeks, eleven to twenty years they will receive three weeks and twenty-one years and over will receive four weeks. Vacations are to be used through the City's calendar year. Discussion was held with each applicants regarding training, with the current dispatcher, and confidentially, with what happens in the office stay's within the office. *Ryan Dorrell - When asked about rotating shifts. Dorrell stated he preferred days, but he would work any shift. DorreD stated he could start at any time. According to Chief Baker Dorrell has experience with computer and has worked with MULES. Dorrell has also previously worked with two other departments as a dispatcher. *George Calton - When asked about rotating shifts. Calton stated he would prefer to work nights during the week, since he is currently going to Culver. Calton can start at any time. Calton also has experience as a dispatcher, and has answered calls for 911. * Stephanie McKim - When asked about rotating shifts and working nights, stated she has only worked days or early evenings, and she did not know how she would do, but at least give it a try. McKim was not aware of the starting salary, since she was previously make more at her current employment. McKim stated if all possible she would prefer days. If hired a two weeks notice would be needed to give her current employer. McKim is looking into full time employment. "@Jessica Lewis - When asked about rotating shifts and nights. Lewis stated she would be willing to work what ever shift was given. Lewis stated she had a small child and child care would not be a problem. Lewis stated she had some knowledge about what a dispatcher does. Lewis stated she was interested in the full time position and could start working anytime. Cynthia Clark - Was asked about working rotating shifts, dark stated it would depend on how often it happened, dark stated she preferred working days only, and if needed every now and then work the rotating shift if someone was sick. Clark stated she was interested in the full time position, and the wages was discussed due to the amount she had written for expected wages. Clark said she understood the difference since she would be working in town and the benefits. Clark stated she could start working right away. *Donna Johns - Was asked about working rotating shifts, . Johns stated she could work any shift.

*Ashlee Bell - When asked about rotating shifts. Bell stated that was not a problem. Bell stated she was interested in part-time, but could work full time if it did not interfere with her schedule at Culver. Bell stated she is trying to get into the Academy in Macon to become a police officer and this job would help her out. Bell stated she could start after February 7th after giving notice to her present employer.

Wiewel stated with no objections he would make the following recommendations to the full Council. To hire Ryan Dorrell as a full time dispatcher and George Calton as a part-time dispatcher. Should the Council agree to these recommendations, Chief Baker is to notify the other individuals, and to let them know the City will be seeking 2 more full time dispatchers and 1 part-time dispatcher.

Having nothing further before the Committee, the meeting was adjourned.
