Wakonda State Park Facts & Rent-A-Trailer
rates Unique
Features Wakonda
State Park has several unique and interesting features contained in
its boarder of 1,050 acres, the most significant being the sand
prairies. Once common along the big rivers in Missouri, they are
nearly extinct. Wakonda is the only state park to contain
sand" prairies. Another feature is the six lakes that provide
a stopping and resting point for the waterfowl during the spring
and the fall migratory season. Wakonda is also known for its large
sand beach and the recreational activities that it provides.
Activities
available at Wakonda State Park include the following: Fishing,
swimming, hiking, hiking, volleyball, camping, picnicking, bird
watching, and naturalist activities. Camping Wakonda
State Park offers 79 campsites: 30 that are electric and 49 basic.
The campground is open year round. During our busy season, April
1st through October 31st, the rates are $7.00 for a basic site and
$12.00 for an electric. During the winter these rates are lowered
to $6.00 for basic and $10.00 for electric because water and other services are not available during these months. Wakonda
offers naturalist programs and activities
from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Wakonda's campground is a first
come first serve system. Fishing Wakonda has six lakes located throughout the park for
fishing. Agate, Quartz, Granite, and Jasper Lakes are open 7:OOAM to sunset. Jasper Lake
is shoreline fishing only and Quartz and Granite are carry in boats only. Agate Lake
and Wakonda Lake have a 10HP limit and a boat launch. If you are camping you are
allowed to fish all night as long as you put your camping permit in the window of your
vehicle to let us know you are an overnight guest.
Boulder Lake, located in the campground, is open for campers only,
due to the large amount of children and pedestrian traffic
in the campground. Boats are allowed in the lake as long as they are carried in and
electric motors only. There are 10 Jon boats and 3 canoes available for rent at the park
office. Wakonda Lake has six and Agate has four Jon boats. These rent for $2.00 an hour
with a two-hour minimum. The park provides the life jackets and oars upon request.
The boats may be rented between the hours of 7:30 AM and 7:OOPM unless you are an
overnight guest. Swimming Wakonda operates a free beach with no lifeguards and a
fast food/snack bar from Memorial Day to Labor Day, weather permitting. The
concession hours are 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM seven days a week. The beach is open 10:00 AM
to 8:00 PM seven days a week Hiking
